Martin Machado spent more than a decade as a merchant mariner on international containerships. He’s also worked on oil clean-ups and as a commercial fisherman. These personal experiences, and the wider history of maritime exploration, show up in his work as an artist. Each line feels so closely seen and carefully drawn, revealing a deep connection to the sea.
